After nearly nine years, 4,500 American dead and 100,000 Iraqi dead, U.S. officials formally shut down the war in Iraq - a conflict that Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said was worth the American sacrifice because it set Iraq on a path to democracy. The
90's may have had some truly awful horror
movies (at least in the beginning) and
dreadful fashion, but one thing that wasn't
awful during that time was the music. In
fact, I'd go so far as to say that the 90's
were one of the best decades for music since
the 70's, although I do love a lot of music
from the 80's. But coming back to the point
at hand, the 90's were a time for
experimentation and new genres. This was a
time when the glamour and sparkly beauty of
hair metal bands gave way to the filthy,
dirty looks of grunge and nu-metal. It was
also a time when industrial rock was
incredibly popular, with artists such as
Nine Inch Nails, The Smashing Pumpkins, and
more garnering huge fan bases. One such band
was Filter, who appeared on many horror
soundtracks, becoming a genre favorite. So
let's take a look at their 1995 debut album,
Short Bus, and see if nearly 17 years has
altered its impact.

On August 17, 2010 Filter released The Trouble with Angels, the band's 5th studio release. Filter had one of their biggest hits back in 1995 with
"Hey Man Nice Shot" that peaked at #76 on the Billboard Charts. It is considered to be one of their most notable songs, yet they reached #12 of the Billboard charts with
"Take a Picture" off their album Title of Record and were back on the charts reaching number #94 with
"Where Do We Go From Here." 2011 has them on the road with alternative rockers Bush and Chevelle.
