Filter announces additional US tour dates; politcally-charged single "What's Next" building at radio

As FILTER continues to tour and announce additional U.S. dates in support of their compelling ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED album on Pulse Recordings, their politically-charged new single "What's Next" is building at radio. "What's Next" follows the group's "pro-troops, anti-war" debut single "Soldiers of Misfortune," a fixture at rock stations nationwide.

"What's Next" lashes out at war barons and Bush hardliners as frontman RICHARD PATRICK sings: "They just keep holding us back/Wish I could just see the attack/They just keep beating us down, down/It's time we took up a stand...'Cause right now we just don't realize/What's next...Take the soldiers and put them in sand/Pull the child right from the man/It's not hard to get swallowed up/George Bush is fucking us up/See the lies that he has sown/Wash us up and he has us...We don't know who to trust/They just keep swallowing us, We've got each other to trust."

Says PATRICK:"We've got two oil men in the fuckin' White House that have destroyed our country. And we can't seem to recognize that as a culture. It just astounds me. So it's a call to arms."

Meanwhile, FILTER has added an additional leg of tour dates (July 27-August 15) to their in-progress U.S. trek, which began in New York City on May 13, the day the Josh Abraham-produced ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED--their first album in five years--was released. On the road, FILTER is performing songs from the new album--including "Soldiers of Misfortune,"; hailed by the New York Post as a "soaring and emotional song"--with the band's classics like "Hey Man, Nice Shot" and "Take A Picture."

Filter expands U.S. itinerary and announces special show at The Roxy in LA

A July 12 performance at The Roxy in Los Angeles highlights the newly expanded in progress U.S. tour by FILTER in connection with their compelling new album ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED (Pulse Recordings) and single "Soldiers of Misfortune."

The Roxy show is a special intimate friends and family performance - Los Angeles is FILTER leader Richard Patrick's adopted hometown - and a limited number of tickets will be made available to the general public.

The newly announced dates run from 7/7-7/12 in the Southwest and feature special guests Opiate for the Masses and The Urgency. FILTER's U.S. tour began in New York City on May 13, the day the Josh Abraham-produced ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED - their first album in five years - was released. After performing in America through June 2, the band headed overseas for two festival dates - MTV Rock in Park (Nurnburg, German) and Rock am Ring (Nurnburgring, Germany) - and a headlining show at London's Islington Academy.

On the road, FILTER will perform songs from the new album - including the first single and video "Soldiers of Misfortune," hailed by the New York Post as a "soaring and emotional song" - with the band's classics like "Hey Man, Nice Shot" and "Take A Picture."

The response to the band's performances - their first in six years - has been enthusiastic.

"…Patrick's performance was inspired" noted the BOSTON HERALD (6/2), while the BOSTON GLOBE (6/3) praised the "fine set" and the BOSTON MUSIC SPOTLIGHT (6/5) said "one set that did prove to be worthwhile was that of Filter, the recently resurrected rockers led by frontman Richard Patrick. Backed by a new look 4-piece band, Patrick sounded excellent and rocked with energy…"

In his home state of Ohio, the CLEVELAND SCENE (5/25) hailed Patrick and the new line-up: "Patrick performed two of the strongest tracks from Filter's new politically charged CD, Anthems of the Damned: the single "Soldiers of Misfortune" and the raging "The Take."...Patrick recruited a new lineup for the tour: guitarist Mitchell Marlow, bass player (and Akron native) John Spiker, and drummer Mika Fineo - all of whom play well with Patrick. It was a tight performance, one that Patrick suggested was long overdue." Elsewhere, the NEWS RECORD (University of Cincinnati, 5/19) wrote that "The guys from up north burst on to the stage with intense energy, keeping the crowd alive with their hits 'Take My Picture' and 'Hey Man, Nice Shot.'"

The band's current leg of dates--their first tour in nearly six years - included a slot this past weekend at Columbus, Ohio’s "Rock on the Range" music festival.

On the road, FILTER will perform songs from the new album - including the first single and video "Soldiers of Misfortune," hailed by the New York Post as a "soaring and emotional song" - with the band's classics like "Hey Man Nice Shot" and "Take A Picture."

PATRICK calls ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED his "howl in the night," a harsh indictment of civilization that doesn't exclude himself from its vision of a world falling apart. Pointed and passionate, the new album traces PATRICK's own anger and shame with the state of things. It was produced by Josh Abraham (Slayer, 30 Seconds to Mars, Velvet Revolver, Staind, Courtney Love) and recorded in Los Angeles.

Here are some initial critical thoughts on ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED:

BRADENTON HERALD (Florida): "'Anthems for the Damned' is also arguably the most stylistically diverse Filter album to date. While most casual fans associate the band closely with the vaguely industrial trappings of 'Hey Man Nice Shot,' all of Filter's releases have showcased Patrick's versatility as a songwriter to some degree. The new CD takes that eclecticism several steps further, without coming off as scattershot or disjointed."

OAKLAND PRESS (Michigan): "'Anthems For the Damned' certainly picks up where its predecessor, 2002's 'The Amalgamut' left off…'Anthems...' indeed ranges from hard-hitting anthems like 'Soldiers of Misfortune' to more melodic fare such as 'What’s Next' and 'Hatred is Contagious.'"

SUNDAY PAPER (Atlanta, GA): "'Anthems for the Damned,' a focused howl of frustration at the current state of the world."

New FILTER Single Has Good Fortune At Radio

The first new FILTER single in six years, called "Soldiers of Misfortune", made a huge impact at rock radio this week, with nearly 40 stations adding the song to their playlists. That should please frontman Richard Patrick, who told The Pulse of Radio the song was based on his feelings about the Iraq war and its effect on the troops serving there.

"There's so many artists out there that focus on their money, and they focus on, like, girl-boy problems, and I think that's great, and that has a place," he said. "But for FILTER, I'm a new dad and when my daughter's 20, I want her to know that I did something, and I tried to say something with my art. When I wrote 'Soldiers of Misfortune', I wanted to write the ultimate anthem for the soldiers of misfortune, the soldiers of the Iraq war."

"Soldiers of Misfortune" will appear on FILTER's new album, "Anthems for the Damned", which is due out May 13.

Richard Patrick said the song was inspired by a letter from a FILTER fan who joined the Army reserves to get his college tuition paid. He was sent to Iraq and killed in a rocket attack just days later.

FILTER and DISTURBED performed along with JESSICA SIMPSON and the PUSSYCAT DOLLS for U.S. troops in Kuwait last week, where FILTER was joined for one song by ex-bassist Frank Cavanagh, who's now serving in the armed forces and headed for duty in Baghdad. The concert was webcast on MySpace and an edited version will be shown on FX on April 12.

Patrick and his wife Tina had their first child together in February, a girl named Sloan Luella Patrick.

Link to the band's page and get the song. http://www.oficialfilter.com/
Hey Sergeant, Nice Shot

Filter were joined onstage by a very special guest yesterday in Kuwait. The band played in front of troops as part of Operation MySpace -- which was streamed live on the social networking site and also featured Disturbed. Former bassist Frank Cavanagh, who has since gone on to become an Army sergeant, got up on stage and joined the band for "Hey Man Nice Shot." Cavanagh will begin his first tour of duty in the Middle East later this month. After the performance, he said, "I love the Army and I love Filter. To be able to join Richard [Patrick] and my former band for the first time in nearly six years is a huge honor. To perform this song with the band in Kuwait holds a truly special meaning for me, as I am able to share the musical part of my life with my brothers and sisters who are serving our country." --Doug Leibowitz, Premiere News & Prep http://www.oficialfilter.com/
Filter's 'Anthems For The Damned' Due Out May 13 On Pulse Recording

Band Headed To Kuwait To Perform For Operation: MySpace, An Exclusive Concert Live From The Middle East For American Troops

FILTER have signed on with Pulse Recordings for the release of their forthcoming ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED, due out May 13 and produced by Pulse Recording head Josh Abraham.

Prior to the album's release, FILTER--Richard Patrick, vocals; Charles Lee (Loser), bass; Mika Fineo (Red Skeleton), drums; and Mitchell Marlow (He Is Legend), guitar--will head to Kuwait this week for the Operation MySpace concert to perform alongside the Pussycat Dolls, Jessica Simpson, Disturbed, DJ Z-Trip and comedian Carlos Mencia.

The Kuwait performance holds special meaning for FILTER's Richard Patrick. The album's first single "Soldiers of Misfortune"--described by Patrick as a soaring anthem and a "sardonic anti-war/pro-troops song"--is a first-person narrative inspired by a letter from FILTER fan Sgt. Justin Eyerly. Eyerly enlisted in the Army reserves to get his college tuition paid, in his final year of college he was shipped to Iraq where he died from a rocket attack and small arms fire after just a few days of duty. Additionally, PATRICK's former bassist Frank Cavanaugh, an Army officer is due to be shipped overseas to begin his tour of duty in the coming months.

"It is an honor and a privilege for me and the whole band to be given the chance to perform for the troops," PATRICK says of the upcoming show. "Based on personal experiences and relationships, I feel going to Kuwait and playing for the men and women who put their lives in harm's way every day is the least I can do. Hopefully these performances bring enjoyment and alleviate some stress while these soldiers are serving overseas."
